I would not recommend that anyone study Eldridge for his theology. He is a little bit of a cooky mystic. That being said, I do think that as a cooky mystic he has some things to say that I myself as something of a “Reformed” Pharisee and cowardly boy needed to hear in order to grow up and actually BE more like Jesus rather than just knowing about Him–or rather men’s doctrines about Him–and that Eldridge has God’s Spirit at work in him enough that he ought not to be completely written off. Particularly, he emphasizes the good nature of being male (and female for girls) that is inherently good because God made it that way, much to the consternation of many a “Reformed” brother in Christ who emphasizes our depravity to the exclusion of an idea that God was actually good in making us. Eldridge overstates his point to make it, and for that he is rightly criticized. But there is something valuable in his words that ought not be rejected because he goes too far.
